Bishkek, Feb. 20, 2018 / Kabar /. In the coming years, we will try to fully resolve the issues of borders, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said during his two-day working visit to Batken region, where he met with residents of Leilek district and Isfana and Suluktu towns.
Speaking about foreign policy, the President said about his visits to neighboring countries.
"Positive progress was achieved in solving many problems including border disputes. Negotiations on border issues continue with Uzbekistan, active negotiations were held with Tajikistan, which provided a prerequisite for solving border and other concerns in near future," the President said.
Jeenbekov reminded that borders should be the basis for friendship of peoples, and not the subject of discord. In world practice, border disputes are resolved only through negotiations.
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border in September of 2017, according to which 85% of the borders were agreed. The length of the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is 1378 kilometers, 230 of which remain uncoordinated.
The total length of the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is 970 kilometers, 519.9 kilometers of which are specified. Negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of the remaining kilometers are continuing.
